Lion Mesa (I), PFNP, AZ
1/3/2026 Lion Mesa (I), PFNP, AZ - The original plan was an easy 5-mile hike, but it ended up being a difficult 10.5-mile hike. In this area, there are many nice boulders for the rock art. I found some petroglyphs, but not much. I’ll come back to this area and spend more time exploring.

Lion Mesa (II), PFNP, AZ
1/6/2026 Lion Mesa (II), PFNP, AZ - Today was a different way to approach the Lion Mesa, hiked on the water road. The water road runs from one water tank to another, and is closed to the public for driving through. The water tank supplies the drinking water that the animals need to survive. Hiked on the easy road hike for seven miles; however, a deer was watching me for a long time from atop the hill.

Jasper Forest West, PFNP, AZ
1/11/2026 Jasper Forest West, PFNP, AZ - Winter is here, and remaining snow is all over the north side of the slopes; snow adds additional beauty. However, hiking on melting snow is tricky, slippery and muddy. Try to avoid hiking on the snow, but the bottom of the shoes are getting thicker and heavier. That was a good excuse to stop and take a break to enjoy a winter wander.

Concho, AZ
1/14/2026 Concho, AZ - Not much information from the Internet about petroglyphs in the small town of Concho, Arizona. However, my inspiration is telling me that there are many rock art sites in this area. Today, I’ve hiked one of the cliff sides that is visible from the highway, and found a few petroglyphs.

Concho (II), AZ
1/16/2026 Concho (II), AZ - Explored three different areas of potential rock art sites with many nice boulder fields. I found no rock art. Disappointed, but the weather was nice and a good day to hike outdoor.

Southeast of PFNP, AZ
1/18/2026 Southeast of PFNP, AZ - At the Highway 180 roadside trailhead, the sign said 'foot traffic only' but the gate was locked, and I couldn’t open it. I thought this was strange. Southeast of PFNP is not a popular place for people to visit, even though some areas are beautiful, a one-of-a-kind place. I couldn’t find the rock art that a disappointment, where the weather was perfect, sunny, and not hot, perfect hiking conditions, I had a good time.

Lyman Lake State Park, AZ
1/19/2026 Lyman Lake State Park, AZ - Today was MLK holiday, and state parks had free admission. I thought the park was packed with people, but I was wrong; there was no one in the park, which means the park was all mine. However couple of cars came shortly after, but were very quiet all day long. Seems to lake water level is lower. I have hiked petroglyphs peninsula trail end-to-end, enjoyed taking petroglyphs photos, and stopped by the Rattlesnake Point Pueblo. Today was a nice day!

Hashknife Pony Express Parade, Holbrook, AZ
1/27/2026 Hashknife Pony Express Parade, Holbrook, AZ - Total 18 Horseback riders, cowboys and cowgirls, about one mile parade in the town of Holbrook for the Hashknife Pony Express, which is a recreation of the old mail delivery system, and actually delivers mail tomorrow. The historian explained to me that the qualification of old-time pony express horseback mail delivery was less than 25 years of age and a weight of less than 120 LB.

Hashknife Pony Express Mail Delivery, AZ
1/28/2026 Hashknife Pony Express Mail Delivery, AZ - The mail delivery by horseback riders from Holbrook to Scottsdale, AZ. Every mile marker, there is a waiting horseback rider, and run till the next mile marker to pass the mailbag. They don’t stop and pass the mail bag, instead they run full speed and pass the mailbag, which was too fast, and I’ve missed the first couple transaction. This event was escorted by several police cars, and followed by a track with horse trailer.

Deer Butte, PFNP, AZ
1/28/2026 Deer Butte, PFNP, AZ - I called the "Deer Butte", because there are many deer petroglyphs on this boulder stack up a small butte. Also, I saw three actual deer on my way to the butte. From the top of the mesa, 360 degrees of nice wide view. It was eight miles of the round trip no trail hike. At the end of the day, I was tired but felt so good.
