Gallup West, NM
4/16/2025 Gallup West, NM - The site is located east of Lupton Road, near the AZ/NM border NM side. The site is visible from a driving car that I found. There are many figures in one area, some of which are fading out.

Superman Canyon, Gallup, NM
4/16/2024 Superman Canyon, Gallup, NM - It is called the Superman Canyon, because the Superman movie came here to shoot the movie. One local told me there are petroglyphs in this canyon, but didn’t tell me the exact location. I was lucky to find it.

Guadalupe Ruin, Tapia Canyon, NM
4/17/2025 Guadalupe Ruin, near Tapia Canyon, NM - This ruin is located atop the mountain that can’t be seen from the trailhead or the bottom of the trail. When hiking on a steep trail to reach the middle of the flat area of the mountain, the roof of the ruin is visible. The roof was added to protect the ruin. After the middle of the mountain, there is no visible trail to reach the top, and it is steep and not for the solo hiker on a strong, windy day. So I ended up seeing it from the middle of the mountain.

Tower Ruin, Tapia Canyon, NM
4/18/2025 Tower Ruin, Tapia Canyon, NM - Two nice separate ruins are located higher side of the flat mesa area in the Tapia Canyon. One ruin is cylinder-shaped, and another one is just like someone’s house. There are a few smaller-sized circular kivas near the ruin.

Tapia Canyon, NM
4/18/2025 Tapia Canyon, NM - I wanted to come here for a long time, finally made it, I’m happy now. To reach the parking area, there are a few "Private Property, No Trespassing" signs. According to the landowner, the sign means, if you stay on the main road, you are ok. BLM closed a 1.3-mile dirt road because the road was washed out, which means we have to hike 2.6 miles extra for the round trip. Both sides of the canyon walls are gorgeous, never get tired of looking at. I found four very nice distinguished petroglyph areas, there are many figures on each panel, all of which are higher side of the rock walls. Hiked 8.5 miles mainly on the canyon wash today, even didn’t go to the arch, which is near the end of the wash and a place to turn back. I took nearly a couple of hundred photos today, and satisfaction exceeded the tiredness.

Coronado Historical Site, NM
4/21/2025 Coronado Historical Site, NM - There are ruins and kivas, round and square ones. To get inside the ruin, climb up a ladder to reach the top of the roof, and climb down another ladder to reach the inside. There are replicas of the pictographs in the ruin, but taking photos is not allowed. In this place, everything replica and nothing is original. If you want to see the original, this is not the place to be.

La Bajada Hill, NM
4/22/2025 La Bajada Hill, NM - I tried from the west side before, and saw "Tribal Land, No Trespassing, Fine $500" sign. Today I approached from the east side, hiked down the La Bajada Mesa, Santa Fe National Forest. Little longer hike, but doesn’t bother the tribal land. Petroglyphs are on the black volcanic rocks. There are many, and most of them are faded out.

La Cieneguilla East, NM
4/23/2025 La Cieneguilla East, NM - There is a trail on the east side of La Cieneguilla surrounded by a wire fence. I discovered it recently and hiked around today. There are some petroglyphs, but not much on the higher side of the cliff wall. This is the last part of the La Cieneguilla petroglyphs site for me.

Serpent Panel, Abo, NM
4/24/2024 Serpent Panel, Abo, NM - I couldn’t find the exact location of this place priore to this trip. I decided to drive all public roads in Abo. There are not much public roads in Abo anyway. Lucky me, I found it on the second try. The Serpent Panel is located higher side of the cliff wall. I took photos from the road, didn’t hike up the hill that was too steep, and a lot of work to do. I was expecting a few days to find it, but found it soon, now I have extra time left.

Box Canyon, Socorro, NM
4/25/2025 Box Canyon, Socorro, NM - By the Box Canyon of the first parking lot, we can look down a nice canyon. There are a few caves. to reach the first and the largest cave, hike up the very steep trail to reach it, which has pictographs that have faded out and no original figures left except wave-like figures. Hike down the canyon bed, impressed both sides of the rock formation, and turn back near the highway. This park is large in size and has much more to explore, but not today.

Penjeacu Pueblo, San Antonio, NM
4/28/2025 Penjeacu Pueblo, San Antonio, NM - There are stacks of small to medium-sized rocks here and there. Sand covered up some pile of rocks, and creosoto bushes are growing all over. Very hard to recognize this pueblo. Control the river bush fire nearby today. I was hoping to find the RA, but not.

Rio Bonito Petroglyph Trail, NM
4/30/2025 Rio Bonito Petroglyph Trail, NM - If you have a high clearance 4x4 and are an excellent driver, you have no problem driving down to the trailhead, one segment is deep digging pebbles that are impossible for me to drive. Anyway, I’ve hiked starting higher up, the total distance was 3.8 miles round trip. I was there about 1:00 pm, after that the tree shade covered the petroglyphs, and it was not easy to see.
