1/31/2012  Union Pass Northeast, AZ (OHCOSU) - Yesterday I have hiked northwest side of the Union Pass and today I hiked northeast side, those are side by side but totally different trails. This hike has variety of attractions that springs, arches, cave like holes, petroglyphs, running water creek, dry waterfalls and rock scramblings. It was much more greener than the yesterday hike.

1/30/2012  Union Pass, Bullhead City, AZ - OHCOSU people use UT time whenever they go (They just ignor the local time.) which I didn't know it, meet at 9 am in Laughlin, NV, means at local time that I thought, so I have missed by one hour at this morning. Anyway I drove up the highway 68 and saw the beautiful mountain range, I thought I got to hike there and started to hike the northwest side of the Union Pass.

1/30/2012  Laughlin, NV - This town is a casino town and located southeast of Nevada; Bullhead City, Arizona, is across from the Colorado River. About a dozen of large hotels/casinos are dominated in this town, seems to workers are living in Bullhead City, where Bullhead City has no casinos. Last two photos are from a small town of Searchlite that locatred between Laughlin and Las Vegas.

1/28/2012  Ejection Seat Ridge, Lake Mead, NV (ABF) - The 5th row 5th photo is the remining the ejection seat. The crashed air plane was totally damaged and remaings are still in the valley. I remembered that who is making the ejection seat, click here for the detail. Also I remembered that another air plane clash site is not far only couple miles south from this air plane clash site, click here for more detail.

1/24/2012  Colorful Canyon, Lake Mead, NV (ABF) - This trail is located east side of North Bowl of Fire and southeast from the Muddy Peak. Beautiful and bright color combination of rocks were visible under the black rocks at the Colorful Canyon area. We saw a tortoiseshell, fossillzed animal & birds footprings and a large dry waterfall. The view from top of the ridge was clear view because it was windy.

1/17/2012  Greenwater Canyon, Death Valley, CA - Yesterday I was hiking the south side of the Greenwater Canyon and found couple petroglyphs sites easily. There is nice pictographs site some place in the Greenwater Canyon, I thought I can find it easily. I was wrong, I couldn't find it. Oh well, there is always next time. Although dissapointment for finding pictographs site, I enjoyed hiking under the nice weather.

1/16/2012  Greenwater Canyon, Death Valley, CA - I was so excited to see many petroglyphs, only the problem was the location, it was high up on the cliff, a ranger said may be more dirt did exist around the petroglyphs when they carved the petroglyphs, but currently not easy to get there and take photos, see the top parts of rocks of the last two photos that the locateion of the petroglyphs.

1/16/2012  Krunze Townsite, Death Valley, CA - I wanted to see the Krunze Townsite that 2,000 people use to live there, howeveer bushes and weeds grow on the center of the road and my car can't make it by not enough high clearance. The rusted can junction that the townsite of the Greenwater and I was happy to be there. No water and trees around it, it was harsh condition to live there but view was wonderful.

1/15/2012  Pyramid Peak Attempt, DV, CA (LVMC) - It was gorgeous sunrise at the Death Valley Junction. I was tirelessly exploring many places for past few days and that got me, when started hiking my physical part said I am too tired to hike and my mental part said I was waiting this hike for so long I have to finish it, and winner was physical part. I went the Opera House to watch the movie after the hike.

1/14/2012  Lowest Point, Death Valley, CA - I did search for the lowest point from the Internet and found the GPS coordinates N 36° 15.017, W 116° 49.500. I was holding the GPS and walk on white salt flats of the Badwater Basin. When reached the lowest pont, I put my GPS on the salt flats and read the lowest point that -310 ft. It is still sinking but that way lower than current official lowest point of -282 ft.

1/14/2012  Scotty’s House, Death Valley, CA - The Lower Vine Ranch that refer to the Scotty's house, not the Scotty's Castle. Albert Johnson, owner of the Scotty's Castle, tried to build a house for Scotty, see 2nd row 2nd photo, but Scotty didn't want a fancy house and built a simple house instead. He loved outdoor living, he moved the bath tub and bed to the outside. Some photos were replica of ranger's photos.

1/14/2012  Scotty’s Castle, Death Valley, CA - Albert Johnson, owner of the castle, lets Scotty to tell everyone that called Scotty’s Castle by extended his life span for over three decays. Scotty was fun person to around and Johnson enjoyed with his company. Also dry and sunny Death Valley weather helped him from illness. However Scotty didn't like to stay in the Castle because can't smoke and drink alcohol.

1/13/2012  Red Wall Canyon, Death Valley, CA - No sign for the trail, also not easy to find the trailhead, I just parked side of the road where I can park and started to hike up the dry wash. The Red Wall Canyon starts between the red and black mountains, when get closer to it, it is obvious but can't tell from the road view. I detour to the red mountain, which originally I thought the Red Wall Canyon.

1/12/2012  Titus Canyon, Death Valley, CA - When enter the Titus Canyon, it was already sunset, so that some photos are bright sunset color and others are dark night color, at the exit of the Titus Canyon, it was all dark and nothig interested to show here. I am sure at next time, I'll visit during daytime and stop the car many places and hike around to find out, which I had no time to do at this time.

1/12/2012  Bullfrog Townsite, NV - One mile southwest from Rhyolite town used to called the Bullfrog, which was also gold mining town, and over 3,000 people lived there, and currently only couple building reminings as ruins, one is the ice house and other one is the jail. The Red Barn Art Center has been built by the remining jail building and offered artist residency and artist workspace programs.

1/12/2012  Goldwell Open Air Museum, NV - This place was established year of 2,000, and located adjacent to the Phyolite ghost town. It is outdoor sculpture park open 24 hours 7 days/week and admission is free of charge. The main sculptures are The Last Supper and Ghost Rider, created by Albert Szukaiski, who died in 2,000. Also some more sculptures are displayed.

1/12/2012  Rhyolite Townsite, NV - It was gold mining town and at the peak time, there were over 10,000 people lived in this town, however it is a ghost town now. There are many remining buildings as ruins and one of the most photographed ghost towns in west that Wikipedia said. The train statiion building is remining in full figure and the bottle house has a facelift recently, both fanced out.

1/12/2012  Ash Meadow National Wildlife Refuge, NV - The Devils Hole is the unknown size of the underground water cave and part of Death Valley National Park system and located in the Ash Meadow National Wildlife Refuge. They protect the Pupfish that endangered fish with one inch length and one year life span. The water temperature is the same 93 degrees year long. Which remind me that I soaked at the top of unknown size of the underground water cave hot springs at Fillmore Hot Springs in UT, actually it was a warm springs temperature between 93-95 degrees, click here to see the photos.

1/12/2012  Death Valley Junction, CA - Marta Becket, who was legend ballerina here, has been performed one-woman show for past 45 years in the Amargosa Opera House and her final crtain will be the next month. She has painted the murals of audiences in the opera house, so that she never perform without audiences again. Also she has painted many pictures in the hotel. 6th row photos are from her movie.

1/7/2012  White Owl Canyon Loop, Lake Mead, NV (ABF) - The feature of this hike was three distinguished slot canyons. One was the White Owl Canyon that flat trail and easy to walk, one was low depth slot canyon and also flat trail easy to walk, however near the bottom of the Lakeshore Dr that scared some ones to scramble down. Water level of Lake Mead was higher than expected, saw the Blue Heron.

1/4/2012  Boy Scout Canyon, Lake Mead, NV (ABF) - Our end of the trail was at top of the dry waterfall that I thought but Alex didn't stop there, he was keep going and hand line rope to reach the bottom of the waterfall. This rope was thick rope we can play the 'Tug of War'. At the top of the waterfall, guys were pulling him up, after he climbed up safely he said 'I am not 15 years old anymore'   Click here for road map
