9/1/2023 Simmons Graveyard-1, Frenchman Coulee, WA - Follow the sheep trail to the Columbia River side. However down to the Columbia River was too steep cliff for me, turned back. It was Labor Day weekend, there are many people enjoy boating and rock climbing.

9/1/2023 Simmons Graveyard-2, Frenchman Coulee, WA - Today approached differntly. Near the Frenchman Coulee Boat Lamp, hike to the Columbia River. At the opposite side to the Whisky Dick Cove on the Columbia River, where suppose to rock art panels are located, but I couldn’t find it. There are many boulders around here, look all over, 6 miles hike plan exceed to 9 miles hike, it was hot day and no drinking water left, I got a trouble. Fortunately someone gave me a bottle of drinking water, my goodness.

9/3/2023 Quincy Lake, WA - It was still holiday weekend but no people here at the lake, very quiet and peaceful. It was hot day, can use tree shade, but there is no trees around here.

9/5/2023 Scenic View Area, Vantage, WA - Highway 90 roadside scenic view of the Vantage Bridge and Columbia River, beautiful view area. View of the west side of the Columbia River that many tall and long cliff at the river side, seems to no hiking trails.

9/6/2023 Ice Harbor Dam RA, Snake River, WA - This rock art boulder was relocated from Wallula to here, otherwise it under the water. They created a memorial site for the rock art boulder. Nice dam view from the memorial site.

9/6/2023 Columbia River Sunset, WA - One segment of the Columbia River, where I was standing, I was witness the beautiful sunset. Other side of the Columbia River became all red sunset color for short time.

9/8/2023 Nix’Ya’ Wii Warriors Memorial RA, Pendleton, OR - The petroglyphs boulder was displayed front of the Portland City Hall for many years and recently it return to the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. They displayed at city hall for vertically then horizontally, now at the memorial site by horizontally.

9/4/2023 Underground Tour, Pendleton, OR - Usage of the basement of the one town block, they re-created the tour route in the basement. Also tour include "31 steps of heaven" that the house of brothel located at the second floor of the building.

9/8/2023 Farmers Market, Pendleton, OR - Closed one block of the main street for the farmer’s market. There are many venders both side of road and people are busy for shopping. It is open only friday 3pm to 7pm.

9/9/2023 Grant County Museum, Canyon City, OR - They have a replica of the pictographs on the cliff walls that destroyed by highway construction. Also they have original small pictographs rocks.

9/10/2023 Camp Gap Ranch, west of Burns, OR - During great Depression, CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) provided jobs for youn men here at the Gap Ranch. The CCC camp operated for eight years that home of 200 corps.

9/11/2023 Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, OR - There are many lakes in this area, some of are large and some of are small, but all lakes are lack of water. Without water, this area is looks so sad. I believe there are many rock art sites, but now many I can find it that the question.

9/12/2023 Double O Ranch, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, OR - Behind the ranch house, there are beautiful rock formation. There is a spring water, no problem to live there. This ranch is belong to the Malheuar National Wildlife Refuge system, caretaker taking care of it.

9/12/2023 Moon Reservoir, OR - There are suppose to many rock art sits south of the Moon Reservoir. It was too hot to hike around here, especially there is no trees and no shades. I decided to come back more cooler temperature to explore around here. This reservoir has water where all lakes around here are dried out.

9/13/2020 Krumbo Reservoir RA, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, OR - The petroglyphs boulder is standing by the side of the road, there are many figures on it. There is one more rock art boulder that not far from this, but I couldn’t find it.

9/13/2023 Flook Lake RA, Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, OR - No water in the lake, a means just flat ground, I can’t tell where is the lake. I saw a car was parking, hike there to meet Ray and Bill. They were kindly showed me petroglyphs panels in the small canyon, which I was looking for, thank you Ray and Bill.

9/14/2023 Barry Reservoir, OR - I'm on my way to the southside of the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge area. There are many small lakes, and hopefully to find rock art panels. However Barry Reservoir water is running and made a pond on the road, assumingly very muddy in the water. So that I’ll come back some other time. Meantime, I’ve hiked around the Barry Reservoir.

9/15/2023 Hart Lake RA, OR - I have a waypoint of the rock art site, but that was bogus. About 8 miles of hike and ready to give it up then Dan and Leslie showed up on the ATV, Dan gave me a ride to the rock art site, where Leslie and their dog started to walk back. There are petroglyphs and pictographs at the site, quickly took some photos, but I know Leslie was waiting. I’ll come back here some other time to spend more time to explore. Thank you Dan and Leslie.

9/16/2023 Long Lake RA, OR - Sam gave me a ATV ride to the Long Lake, then showed me all petroglyphs panels. The lake shore cliff is 2 miles long and drove side of the cliff to showed me all petroglhphs. The lake is little of water in it but mainly dry. Sam got shot a Sage Grouse, where he had a license to shot it 2. He is coming here 30 years. Thank you Sam, without your help, I never find so many petroglyphs panels.

9/17/2023 Jack Creek RA, OR - Wide and flat area of side of the Jack Creek that I found Sam’s family stay. They told me there are some rock art panels otherside of the Jack Creek. At morning, I went otherside of the creek and fond some petroglyphs, but most petroglyphs are faded out and not a good quality.

9/17/2023 Little Spring RA, OR - The spring is not large in size and located at the middle of the long cliff. Petroglyphs panel start after the spring, there are many good condition of the petroglyphs panels on the cliff wall. There are many busy panels, which I like.

9/17/2023 Buena Vista Overlook, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, OR - I was looking for the rock art panels, and walk around the overlook area. There are many cluster of rocks, those rocks are lichen on that confused to petroglyphs. Unfortunately I couldn't find it, I need waypoint for next time.

9/20/2023 West Cow Creek, Arock, OR - Someone mentioned me, there are petroglyphs in this creek, hiked almost 10 miles that east of the Owyhee River, but no luck that made me more tired and disappointed.

9/22/2023 Gray’s Landing Recreation Area, ID - Flat field all the way from the highway, suddenly changed to steep and narrow down hill that road goes to the lake. Lake view is very nice. There are couple picnic tables, but not enough space for the parking.

9/24/2023 Cathedrall Gorge, NV - I’ve stop by Cathedrall Gorge from the top of the view point. There is a gazebo to setdown and enjoy the view, also staircase to go to the bottom of the gorge. Doesn’t matter view from the top or from the bottom, this area is a beautiful brathtaking view.

9/24/2023 Rainbow RA, Caliente, NV - Go through under the train railroad, then go through man-made tunnel. Red color pigment of pictographs panel is short distance. It is beautiful and cozy feeling area surrounding by mountain range.

9/25/2023 Big Rocks Wildness Area Day1, NV - I was hoping, if I hike around, I can find some rock art panels, but didn’t work I was planned, no luck. There are tons of nice rocks and boulders, and cliff walls for the rock art.

9/26/2023 Big Rocks Wildness Area Day2, NV - Contenue to finding rock art panels, but still can’t find it. There are many beautiful rock formations, I wonder why no rock art panels. I need the waypoint for the next time.

9/27/2023 Big Rocks Wildness Area Day3, NV - Hiked south side today, hopefully to find some rock art. There are many scratched rock surface, peel off the outer layer of the rock, growing lichen, but no petroglyphs found. I saw many hidden shelters between rocks.

9/28/2023 Crystal Wash, NV - This is my final visit to the Crystal Wash rock art area. There are two separate sites, Wash I is closer to parking lot, Wash II is far from the parking lot. All petroglyphs are faded/fading out, some of are totally gone. The wash is the trail, follow the wash/trail to found next panel.

9/30/2023 Palmetto, NV - Highway 266 roadside, there are base of rock structures that use for the mine operation in this area, and 200 people called home here. Currently it is a ghost town and no-one living now.

9/30/2023 Wyman Creek RA, CA - To reach the rock art site, turn to the side road, there is an electric wire fence, make sure to hold the handles when disengaging the electric fence wire, after pass the gate, put it back. There are two rocks that petroglyphs are on, finding one is easy, second one is few steps down the creek and face creek side.
